The Torn Veil

Posted on August 4, 2013 by Wes in An Inspirational Thought for Today

And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. Mark 15:37-39

When Jesus died on the cross bearing the punishment of our sins, a short distance away the temple veil was torn.  For hundreds of years, the veil separated sinful people from the holy God.  Whoever entered through the veil to the Holy of Holies was entering the very presence of God.

No one but the high priest was allowed to enter.  If you entered the Holy of Holies without authorization, you would die.  Even the high priest, God’s chosen mediator for His people, could only pass through the veil once a year on the Day of Atonement to offer sacrifices for the sin and disobedience of the people.

When the temple veil was torn from top to bottom, God symbolically opened access from heaven to earth.  He removed the barrier between God and man granting us free access to Him.  Jesus’ death made payment for all our sins; past, present, and future.  The death He died, He died to sin once for all. (Romans 6:10) For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. (1 Peter 3:18)  He satisfied forever the need for us to use a mediator to gain access to God. All who place their faith and trust in the completed work of Christ on the cross alone as payment for their sins have access and can commune with God.

Do you want a life of wholeness and God’s forgiveness?  A simple step beyond the veil will reveal a God who provides hope and love.  Maybe it’s time to stop trusting in good works and religion, and start trusting in the One who can forgive and restore.

I pray today you find the presence of God.
