So the people asked him (John), saying, “What shall we do then?” Luke 3:10-14
People were following John the Baptist and listening to his teachings. As he prepared the way for Jesus, he answered questions and gave a few simple instructions. Here is what he said:
Share – if you have two jackets and someone is in need, give one away.
Care – if you have food, do the same.
Be fair – collect from others no more than what is appointed for you.
Be truthful and kind – intimidation and false accusation are not to be a part of your life.
Be happy – if you agreed to work for a set wage, don’t get frustrated and expect more.
These simple instructions are as practical today as they were long ago. I suspect we are all alike. We have closets full of jackets, food that spoils in the refrigerator, and plenty of room for growth in our attitudes. Which ones will you work on today?
