I have an amazing follow up to the Officer Boy story published last month. Last week I overheard a radio call from police dispatch requesting immediate response to a possible suicide (11-45) attempt on a freeway overpass. I sent out a text following up on those responding to the call. I was ready to give aide to the officers involved or the family if needed. Here is the text exchange I had with an officer:
Pretty amazing stuff – huh? My heart leaped with excitement when I read the text, and I immediately contacted Officer Boy. I let him know what had happened and how the telling of his story may have just saved another life.
The following day I bumped into the responding officer. We talked and he shared the details of how the call played out. During our conversation, I was reminded that there are many, many things working together behind the scenes in life that we will never see or know about. I am thankful God put the pieces together and in this case brought about a happy ending. I am very thankful that God used a simple CODE 7 article to bring about such a positive ending to a volatile situation.
Code 7 Gives!
CODE 7 not only receives donations but gives them as well. Our heart is to be a giving organization. We want your gifts to be multiplied and continue past us. CODE 7 will be sharing a portion of what we receive with other like-minded chaplains in order to enhance the ministry of the agencies they support. A simple gift card for coffee in the hands of a chaplain goes a long way in assisting a hurting or injured heart.
CODE 7 is rising to the next level of giving for the current officers in our care as well. Chaplains have been providing meals and drinks for officers while out on patrol, and now we will be providing a law enforcement family a “family night out” each month. This special night will include dinner at a local restaurant and a family event. Healthy families are critical for officer support, and we believe spending a night out together with a focus on resting and reflecting, renewal will happen. This ongoing project will be funded by donations and discounts to CODE 7 from local businesses and your donations.
Officer News – I was notified at 2:00am Sunday morning March 3, one of our DUI specialists, driving in the marked DUI patrol car, was rear ended by a drunk driver. The officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Thankfully, other than some sore muscles resulting from the crash, she seems to be doing alright. Thank you God it was not any worse.
Code 7 was blessed in March to establish new partnerships with local businesses. We received product donations and/or sponsorship from Islands Restaurant in Eastlake, Donny’s Café in Bonita, and Calvary San Diego. Your support, and the new support from these businesses increase our ability to provide care for law enforcement. Your donations go farther than you can imagine when local businesses match your contributions.
In this month’s Officer Alpha Story, Officer Charles surprises the chaplain and tells it like it is. If you find these stories encouraging or insightful, pass them on to a friend or point them to our website www.gocode7.com. It may be the answer to their prayers.
I’m very blessed to be serving in this capacity. Your donations and personal support allow me to be available. Multiple officers have told me there is a noticeable change in their work environment due to the constant chaplain presence and the services provided by CODE 7. Thank you for doing your part. Given time, things like this have been known to turn the world upside down.
Blessings,
Wes Anderson
