Through Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit gives life and sets you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2
Allow me to illustrate this verse by drawing a parallel with gravity. The law of gravity has been in play as long as the earth has been around. Gravity is the force that is constantly pulling our weight to the ground. Gravity is an influential element of life. It’s been the cause of tension in our life since birth. Through bumps, bruises, and scrapes, the natural force of gravity trained us to avoid physical pain and helped us learn to crawl, walk, and even ride bikes.
The law of gravity cannot be denied, but there is another, greater law, that can overcome its effects–the law of aerodynamics. Through aerodynamics man is able to place extremely heavy objects such as airplanes into the sky and defeat the earth’s gravitational limitations. Aerodynamics don’t cancel out the law of gravity, they overcome it.
Just as the law of aerodynamics overcomes the law of gravity, the life-giving Spirit of God overcomes the law of sin and death. All of the hurts, habits, and hang-ups that defeat us are grounded through the work of the Spirit. With the power of the Spirit, we are strengthened to defeat sin, and we have the ability to rise above our circumstances.
Consider for just a moment the things that are pulling at you today. Take time to identify the issues so that you can apply the remedy the power of the Holy Spirit in your life.
Ask God for help and seek out others that will be able to guide you on your next steps and help you soar above the pull of the world. With the Spirit you can fly!
