He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. Isaiah 53:3
The sins of the world were transferred to Jesus as He hung on the cross. He willingly took the punishment for each wrong we would ever commit. His body was beaten and pierced for our sins—not His.
Jesus’ greatest pain was not physical–the spikes piercing his hands and feet. It was not the pain of the glass and metal fragments tearing through His skin as He was scourged by the Roman soldiers; nor was it the rejection of all His closest friends during His darkest hour.
Jesus’ greatest pain was the separation from God the Father. His communion and connection with God was severed for the first time, the moment the wrath of God was dispensed on Him for our sins. Jesus was rejected and cast from the presence of God.
On the cross He took my place and paid the price for my sins. He set me free from the guilt and punishment I deserve. Jesus was killed, buried and left for dead. He paid the ultimate price for me.
Then Jesus rose from the dead! He conquered Hell! He led the captives free and now sits at the right hand of God praying for you and for me. Today I celebrate the sacrifice Jesus made to set me free from my sins. Actually, I celebrate this every day.
How about you? Have you ever asked God to forgive you and to take away your sins? Have you claimed Jesus’ payment on your behalf? If not, I encourage you to consider God’s love today. In the best way you know how, ask God to forgive you of your sins through the sacrifice of Jesus and receive Him today. His love and forgiveness are things you truly cannot live without.
I hope today is a day of celebration for you. Happy Easter! May your life be part of His resurrection story.
His hands bear the marks of His love and the payment He made. May our lives bear the resemblance of His love.
Blessings,
